The latest 16GB iPhone 3G S costs ~$179 to make, according to iSuppli, about ~$5 more than the previous 3G version. According to Apple, they sold over 1M of these phones in the first 3 days. Not bad.

thats actually funny to hear since for most apple products your paying and extra $500 just for the apple logo.

Well, you have to pay $200 with 2 year contract which means AT&T is heavily subsidizing the phone with the money they will make later with your data plan. If you buy one without the contract, I think it’s over $600, so yes you are still paying a lot for that apple logo.
