It’s not a touchscreen. The European version will be 550 EUR. No price yet on the US version.
Please up date to me the latest information regarding the Nokia N.series N96 when it was available in Malaysia.
Why on earth would Nokia use the same WEAK 950 mah battery (that they had so many problems with in the original N95) and put it in the new N96???Didn’t they learn the first time,and now you have a more sophisticated phone needing more power,thus the redesign for the new battery in the second N95 version???.Ohh mannn,flashbacks here!

It’s too early to tell when N96 will be available in different countries. The first one won’t be available until Q3 2008 (July, Aug, Sep).
As for the battery, I’m sure Nokia knows. I think, instead of making the battery bigger, they are taking the effort to make sure their internal components use less power.

I’m not convinced that the power saving internal componentry will overcome the weakness of the 950 mah battery…when there is a greater power demand overall. Convince me otherwise.

Why is everyone asking questions that has yet to be answered because no further info was released yet… its coming out in Q3 so how can you know how much battery power it eats up or what language is supported or can it watch flash videos or not without downloading 3rd party apps? Weird… it’s good enough to know the price but how can you expect to know other stuff other than tech specs? Wait patiently guys… and about flash videos, it can play flash videos, but not sure in what codec yet but most probably .flv because youtube’s gettin all hot right now =)

The specification has a funny part, namely the 950 mAh battery. It is barely capable to power an N95 for a day if you use most of its features, I wonder how many hours will the N96 last when the owner starts to watch mobile TV on its 2,8″ screen, then surf a bit on the net via HSDPA or WLAN, and take a few 5MP photos, not to mention GPS navigation. I think it woldn’t be to difficult for a “power user” to deplete it in a matter of hours…
I sure hope that Nokia puts an extra battery in the N96’s package.

CAN YOU ALL PLEASE READ THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS FIRST! they do explain that the N96 is likely to come out in Q3 2008 (July, August, September). The battery size does appear to be an issue, and if not careful Nokia are looking at a repeat of Motorola. The Razor was so commonly complained about that when people were ringing about their phones suddenly not holding charge, the operator would imediatly ask if the phone was a Razor. AND INCASE NOT NOTICED MOTOROLA’S ALWAYS DIE OF BATTERY PROBLEMS IN THE END!
The N series do need to be checked into and be careful guys Nokia might be producing for a supply demand quick money making side, like Ipod, with the 80 gig of June 2007, and then the slimmer 80gig of Dec 2007. The problem here was that Ipod worked so fast on getting the next best thing out that the new slimm compact design tended to interfere with the hard drive and battery of the New 80gig.
ALSO there is always EBAY and WARRENTIES if the N96 is having to many problems with its power consumption.
OH and can anyone tell me the average price and problems with the N95 now days?

TO EVERYBODY THAT WANTS TO KNOW THE RELEASE DATE OF THE N96:
It is being initially released in Europe in Quarter 3 of 2008. This means July, August or September.
The release dates for the US, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, India, Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines or anywhere else in the world will be after this. This means you are going to have to wait.
Posting another “I want to know when N96 is released in xxxx” will not magically speed up the release process. It just adds more pointless posts to an otherwise intelligent discussion.
PLEASE people, take heed of what other users have said before me - read the whole thread first - there aren’t any definite release dates yet, it is far too early.
Be patient and post some interesting points, such as how you think the dual LED flash will fare compared to a Xenon flash… Any ideas?
Release dates are relevent to be discussed around the end of April/ beginning of May when network providers will start to promote them. Until then let’s all calm down and speculate how kick-arse this phone will be!!!
I stopped by the Nokia booth at CTIA today. They were promoting N95 but not much with N96. People were allowed to play with many of the N95 on the floor but the only N96 they had were behind the glass case fairly hidden from the rest of the floor.
The person I spoke to say they don’t have an official release date for N96 yet. When I shared the concern about the battery life, it still looks like they are going to stick with the same battery size as N95.
From what I have read elsewhere, Nokia have kept the same battery to reduce the size of the phone. Nobody wants to go back to the days of the old Motorola 8800X
Instead they have concentrated on power consumption reductions to make the phone more efficient.
As long as these optimisations really work (and I don’t have to charge the phone evry 8 hours) I’ll be happy.

why is it tha nokia still use the 950mah battery with the N96 the fact that it doesn’t really work that much with the N95 in as much as am using more time with the N95 using the WLAN. so please make some revision of the provided battery…….
with regards to being “high tech” nokia should have made N96 with a touch screen capability. but take note guys the N95 is such a big rival with the iphone how much more with the N96……. i just can’t wait for it to be in my hands. . . . . !!!!!!

i am using nokia phones from past 5 years and i have changed more then 30 diffrent modles but i love using Nseries phones ,i tought n95 is the best but looking at N96 it has got a Amazing features i would love to have one as soon as it Releases

I doubt N96 will support Excel, Word type of docs. The OS is going to be Symbian based, not Windows Mobile.
Ah, it might have all these fantastic features, and we’ve already talked about the not-so-hot battery life… what I want to know is this: can it heat my frozen foods items for me better than a microwave? And will it wash my car for me better than my poor teenage neighbor? Hook that up Nokia, and I’ll buy two.

@ jimbagz - size constraints probably mean that 3x optical zoom isn’t avaiable. You don’t see ANY front-running mobiles with this functionality because the motors which drive the zoom function would take up too much room inside the phone which is already crammed full of non-phone fundamental goodies (Bluetooth, WiFi, AGPS, IR ports, etc)
On a side note, I saw this is relation to the flash unit on the N96.

That would be interesting. The mock up of N96 I saw didn’t look like that but Nokia can change the design anytime they want since it’s not an official product yet.

But the N95 has S60 software on Symbian OS too and have Office init so that it can read Excel and Word documents…
I hope it will be the same so that I can buy it for work…

@aa11a1a1 (a bit above): It has a 16GB hard drive AND a slot for Micro SD’s up to an extra 8GB (–> total 24GB) and jes, they did cancel infrared.
I think in the first third, there was a question about the LED’s. My oppinion is that they wont match a xenon flash but since they will (unlike the flash) work with the video function it will be a small minus for taking fotos and a huge plus for taking videos.

@ manu - N96 was announced in February 2008. It is perhaps going to make history for its features. The phone has some features which you will find it hard to believe till you hold the phone in your hand. The dual slide phone makes it very convenient for the user to slide and use the various functions with ease. The keypad enables you reply emails, write data, write memory, diary, appointments and many things. The phone is is a mini computer which can make you access to internet, files like word, excel, powerpoint, and PDF……i got it fm http://www.nokian96.worldpress.com
