After more than a year of waiting, Rogers Wireless is finally gearing up to rollout Apple’s iPhones. The carrier said it would offer the handset to its subscribers some time this year. Rogers is the only GSM provider in Canada, so the partnership was more or less a shoe-in and comes as little surprise. Rogers’ COO Nadir Mohamed hinted at the partnership in early 2007 shortly after Apple unveiled the handset: “I’m not saying whether we have agreements or anything [with Apple], but given the iPhone was launched on GSM, we’re in good position to reinforce that we’re the first and have the best-feature devices.”

According to a report from Engadget, the second coming of the Prada phone will feature a five mega pixel camera and WiFi. The quad-band phone will also reportedly support HSPA running at 7.2 Mbps and facilitate video calls. Other features include Bluetooth, TV-out, a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen, a microSD slot and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Too much to be believed?
They are really catching up on all other iPhone Killers. The latest rumor is that not only will they have 3G and GPS, but it will also have support for haptics (touchscreen feedback)
Note to all other iPhone Killers. Need to come up with something more and better soon.
The release of the new Alltel ROM has kept the PPC community busy for the past few days, and the fruits of their labor are now available to the masses. Thanks to a few members over at PPCGeeks and xda-developers, non-Alltel Vogue (CDMA Touch) users can flash their device with Alltel’s newest ROM, enabling EVDO Rev A speeds, and a previous hack for the Titan will also enable GPS. Sprint and Verizon users alike are reporting success, though it should be noted that as of now Verizon users will not be able to go back to the stock. Of course, none of this is official so attempt this at your own risk! The process is fairly straightforward, though may be intimidating to first time flashers so user mindfrost82 has put together a simple to follow walk-thru over on PPCGeeks.
In an article concerning BlackBerry’s strategy, the NY Times is quoting “two independent developers writing software for coming R.I.M. devices” that a touchscreen BlackBerry is in the works. It is yet unknown if it will have a hardware QWERTY just as the rest of its phone or will be an all-touch phone. However, known as the “Apple Killer” it is sure it will be consumer oriented device.
With the release of the Pearl and Curve series, the brand now offers non-professional features such as camera, memory card slot, multimedia player and headphones jack, clearly pointing out it cares about the consumer market. However, iPhone offers both Microsoft’s corporate e-mail and a bunch of other features, such as desktop-like Internet browser and advanced multimedia player. This way, most people who require more than an email client, prefer the Apple iPhone to any of the BlackBerry devices. The manufacturer is obviously trying to change this, as we’ve seen in the contemporary looking interface running on one of its rumored devices, so a touch-device also sounds realistic.
