  Well, technically, the Dare can have more memory than the iphone by having more memory cards… Just a nuisance though.

  The iphone 3g does have turn by turn, the first iphone has turn by turn, and it does have trafic reports. How are the two screans evenly mached? The iphone has a higherresolution and multi-touch. The LG dare has… vibration and lower res screan? This is the most biast comparison I have yet seen. Do some reserch next time you are going to make a comparison.

  How does VCAST / Rhapsidy come even close to comparing to iTunes in terms on content avaliable ?

  Likewise with the development environments, the BREW SDK doesn’t even come close to comparing with the environment for iPhone development. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BREW )

  I had originally gave the screen to iPhone just based on the size, but LG Dare has tactile feedback which iPhone doesn’t. If you are typing on the on screen keypad, it does come in handy.

  VCAST or BREW applications have been around for a very long time, with hundreds and thousands of application available already. There are more VCast enabled phones out there than all the iPhone combined. Besides, it was the iTunes that prevented people from authenticating their phones on the opening day…

  The first iPhone couldn’t have turn by turn since it didn’t even have GPS. The Apple SDK for AppStore prevents people from developing turn by turn navigation type of application. The rumor is TeleNav may be the one to supply iPhone with turn by turn navigation for a hefty fee. Until confirmed, the iPhone right now doesn’t have turn by turn navigation.

  Some people prefer paying for each song while some prefer one fee for all the songs. That’s why I called it even.

  Im sorry to inquire about your VERY bias facts but where did you hear that Verizon has better coverage? I have had both and sold both and I am sorry to tell you but you are sadly mistaken. I am think it was a third party and NOT ATT that stated that ATT had the best coverage year to date. Yes Verizon may let you roam but doesnt that also come with a hefty fee?

  I’ve been in the cell phone industry for the past 10+ years. I’ve used phones from both Verizon, AT&T (when they were Cingular, and PacBell even before that). Although it’s true that there are always certain areas where certain carriers have better coverage, overall the industry consensus is that Verizon does have the best coverage and I’m not talking about roaming and analog coverage areas. I’ve seen all the third party reports and some of them say Verizon, some say AT&T. Most people don’t care about the report but what they’ve personally experienced and I would guess that more people goes with Verizon for the coverage than AT&T. How else do you explain the subscriber numbers? (Before AT&T merged with Cingular to become #1) It’s true that AT&T has in most part, more choices when it comes to phones. They were the first to have the Motorola RAZR. They are the first to have iPhone. Verizon suffers from the fact that they support CDMA - although the technology itself is more superior than GSM, it’s monopolized by Qualcomm and limits the innovation on what kind of phones they can build (they all use the exact same chipsets). AT&T, using GSM they have Nokia and Sony Ericsson, who both no longer build CDMA phones.

  How is it the official iPhone killer? Apple sold 1 million iPhone 3Gs in just 3 days, doesn’t look like the Dare is taking any business away from the iPhone.

  This is by far the most biased comparison I’ve seen. There’s no way the Dare’s screen even comes close to the iPhone’s. High resolution and multi-touch are way better than tactile feedback.Whats the point of tactile feedback? So I can be assured my finger is already touching the screen I know it is?

  iTunes didn’t stop people from activating their phones, Apple did. It was nothing more than a server issue that had nothing to do with iTunes. Once the server was up, iPhones were activated almost immediately.

  Apple has already confirmed that there WILL be a turn by turn navigation app available in the App store (http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/14/apple-says-turn-by-turn-gps-coming-to-iphone-copy-paste-not-a/). Once again, do research before making a false statement.

  And lastly, the App Store will become the next big thing. How many Brew applications has EA Games made? I believe they had 3 big title games in the App Store at launch. There’s no way the Dare compares here either since the iPhone is the enxt big platform to develop for.

  I have no problem with your thoughts on this matter. However, don’t say that they’e unbiased when they clearly are.

  Since when do we talk about application that WILL be available later? I’m just stating the fact that your iPhone you have now does not give you turn by turn navigation.

  Whether it’s the server or the itune itself, “itune” was the reason Apple gave for the glitch.

  I’ve stated facts and features above, not my personal feelings. You don’t have to agree with them. Just because some comments are unbiased does not mean everybody agrees. You are entitled to your opinion, whether it’s biased or not. There are people who will always think iPhone is the best phone there is, no matter what new features other phones have that iPhone doesn’t. And there are people who will not like iPhone even if it is the best phone in the world.

  Another thing I forgot to mention is that iPhone still doesn’t let you buy songs from iTunes directly. You need to connect to internet through WiFi before you can do that. LG Dare’s can purchase songs over the air through VCAST.

  Is it really that big of a deal to use your computer to download music and then sync it to your phone? You have to do it with other music players, are you saying the Dare is better than all those? How do you get those songs off your phone to keep? I bet you have to sync it with your computer, or at least use your computer in some way to get those songs off. Its exactly the same thing except you are biased and are looking at it only one way.

  Yes it would be great to download songs off iTunes without WiFi, but I wouldn’t say it makes the iPhone any less of a phone.

  You have no basis for the GPS comment because whether it is on the iPhone right now or not doesn’t mean its not possible. It will be possible soon. That’s like saying a Mac is better than a PC because it comes with a certain program already installed, however this program can easily be installed on a PC too. Doesn’t make sense.

  Whether it’s better to download using the phone or not is debatable, although having the option in my opinion is always better than not having one. Whether it can or cannot isn’t.

  When iPhone does have the turn by turn navigation available, I may have to change the comparison but for now it doesn’t have it and the application is not available at the moment. Or, I could give the turn by turn navigation to iPhone but compare it to bunch of new features that WILL be available on other phones later (features like, finger print security, projection screen, hologram, 3D sounds, etc.)

  yes it is the iPhone killer, do you really think this phone would have sold that much if it didn’t have an “i” in front of it? didn’t think so… its really just a popularity contest…
  I’ll admit this article is a bit biased, but seriously, the phone is pretty good (other than no recording or pix messaging and such… which are BASIC phones features) but Apple seriously messed up by choosing AT&T, with a crippled 3g network…

  btw… i am not biasing with my comment, because i have AT&T, and the service sucks, WAY too many dropped calls and crappy call quality (but it may also be the phone… but then i see that i only have about two bars all the time)

  This is my unbiased comment.

  This article ia a bit biased however…
  The Dare is a true Iphone Killer. Why?

  The Iphone is a great multimedia player with phone capabilities.
  While the Dare is an Excellent phone with multimedia capabilities.

  Thats why…

  What a phone has to do… The Dare can do it better than a lot of phones and way better than iphone.

  Sooo biased! Clearing up this sites BS. iphone has a bigger, brighter, high-res screen, better (improved) audio quality, faster dialing speeds and better virtual keyboard resulting in faster touchscreen typing speeds, over air sync and can sync to pc, better multimedia software, WAY better web browser, built-in email client, faster 3G AND wi-fi networks, better support for new apps, did i mention better looking? I really dont think Apple is concerned or feels “killed” sales from any product over at LG. LOL

  well since we’re talking about smartphones, not free phones lets get the facts right. Apple took 20% of the smartphone market just in the iphones first year and the new 3G versions current sales are projecting to sell three times the units as the first version. How about we announce the real “killer” when Apple and LGs fiscal sales reports come out.

  It’s arguable whether iPhone is considered a smartphone since until recently it didn’t have support what many business people need, such as MS Exchange. But, for the argument sake, let’s say iPhone is a smartphone.

  iPhone 3G is projecting to sell “tens of millions” this year, since they are now open to other countries beside US. Do consumers really care who makes more money, Apple or LG? Neither will give me a dime, unless I’m a share holder.

  The only reason why people think the Iphone is better is because the first one did so good, also the New Iphone is Just the same as the other, the same 2mp camera, almoat same applications on the main screen like the old one,the same features, and the same res. on the screen. The only thing differnt is the Nav, New App every day,3g network, and I think thats it. also I don’t think anyone would want to see the same Black UI with applications everyday, and I cant believe that this new Iphone doens’t even have a better camera, or have video. The Lg Dare has the highest megapixel Camera in America, and has the Highest Resolution Video camera in america. Also you can Custimize your UI by putting your Applications from the Menu to the screen. can the Iphone do that, and on the Camera, you can custimize your pictures by putting little icons on it, can the Iphone do that?, the camera has AutoFocus which the Iphone doesn’t have,on the video you can go to slow motion. The iphone doesn’t even have Video. This phone is like one of the only new Multimedia phones that does not have video. So the lG Dare is truely the real Iphone Killer.

  I love how people say the iPhone had no support for MS Exchange. Blackberry has no support for Exchange either right out of the box. You need to install their server software to get it to work.

  Also, you can’t compare LG’s total sales per year to Apple since Apple has ONE phone on ONE network. How many phones does LG have on numerous networks?

  the simple truth is, apple is overhyped as being a major competitor. they own 7% of the computer market. HP owns around 30%. iPhone is also not a major competitor, and when it is LG will counter. plain and simple.

  I don’t think we can say either phone is better than the other, but just better for certain people. The iphone is more music/multimedia based and the milti-touch screen is probably better. but I personally prefer the Dare for its better camera, video, and im on verizon so it’s a no brainer which is better for me :p

  Too bad that poor signal reception, sound quality (call)… awful speakers… no MMS, Not able to resend the same sms to other contacts…not able to change a battery… is as well true.

  thats why i switched from iphone to dare…
  because is a better phone.

  if you want a well featured phone
  with nice screen… wifi… Games… tons of Aplications, nice multimedia features.. Nice software to sync… and poor phone capabilities… The iphone is for you.

  I didnt mention about the poor camera, poor Bluetooth, bulky and other issues since the iphone is a joke compared to any phone.

  Even my old nokia 8290 (a 7 years old phone) delivers better call quality than iphone…

  LG Dare is considered a multimedia phone not a smartphone and Verizon rep may be right that you cannot wireless sync with your Outlook e-mail. However, you can still access your Outlook e-mail through HTML browser, if your company supports web based Outlook.

  As a current iphone holder I cannot help being pissed off at this crap based comparison. Tactile feed back is only needed when the phone you are using as a horrible touch screen and you must be reminded that you have just touched it. (obviously miles ahead of the iphone on that one). Itunes is undoubtedly the best multimedia in the world considering the success of its ipod+itunes software.
  This is like comparing a cheetah to a zebra in a cheetah outfit.

  Believe me, the Dare is no iPhone killer. I own the dare and there are so many limitations on this thing. Not to mention Verizon charges you for every little thing they can think of.

  The keypad is extremely responsive when texting. When using the internet browser, it’s inaccurate and very sluggish. I can type much faster than it can keep up. Even though the letter pops up to show you hit the key, it doesn’t always register. It’s extremely annoying.

  The calendar gives me a whopping 300 events. Whoop de doo. I had to sync my calendar using BitPim only to find out a fraction of my events were saved due to the lack of events. I had to delete all my past events in the phone just to add anything new.

  GPS, for another $10 a month. POP email for another $5 a month. I find myself double and triple tapping buttons just to get them to respond on the internet. There are so many issues with this phone it’s not funny.

  My biggest anticipation at this point is a software update / firmware update. By then, maybe a lot of these bugs will be worked out and it will be somewhat useable for more than a sluggish internet 3G or not. No WiFi?

  Even though it’s decent phone, it’s no where near an iPhone killer. This is from someone who owns and uses it daily.

  I have heard that LG Dare has some software bugs. I’m sure Verizon will issue an update soon that will address most of them. Regarding nickel and diming by Verizon, well, they think they can do that because they have better network and people are willing to pay for them. Whether I agree or not, it seems to work for them. I personally only have the voice plan and it’s fine by me.

  The reason we use Verizon is two-fold.

  1. Their coverage in our area is definitely better than any other. We do have some dropped calls in certain really bad spots, but for the most part it’s good. I’ve had several other carriers in this area and they are not as good. Unfortunately, Verizon has a monopoly in this area and not much can be done about it at this point.

  2. Just about everyone I have in my contacts with a cell uses Verizon. So to be helpful to them and myself, Verizon to Verizon is unlimited.

  Don’t get me wrong, this is a decent phone. I tried the voyager before this and took it back within the week. It’s a good phone too but a bit bulky. And the querty buttons are just too stiff for my liking.

  When I put the Dare in my pocket, sometimes I don’t realize it’s even there. The Voyager is definitely noticeable.

  Like I said, this phone is no where near an iPhone killer, but it is one of the nicer phones on the Verizon network. Blackberry would have been my next pick, but I opted for this. I’m not disappointed, I am more disappointed with Verizon than anything. I don’t have POP3 mail nor the GPS service simply because I pay enough monthly already. My GPS in my car is free month to month service. When buying the phone, I don’t understand why you have to pay a monthly access fee when the satellites are free to use.

  Either way, I’m still waiting for the software update for the dare. Maybe it won’t be as annoying.

  Yes, the satellite signals are free to receive but the map isn’t and the turn by turn navigation isn’t free. Verizon has to pay the map guy and the navigation guy all separately, so that $10 a month gets split between 3 guys.

  Yeah I understand the maps and navigation to some degree. I have a Magellan. It’s pretty decent. Monthly service $0. If I want traffic, then it’s only $5 per month. Worth the price if I’m driving around everywhere there is traffic but I don’t.

  $10 a month for GPS on a phone isn’t a real steal for me. I’d rather use a GPS unit since I’m in the car anyway and reserve my phone for calls. I understand some like it, but $10 a month is definitely overpriced for what you get. I tried it out and it does appear to have a good list of businesses my Magellan does not, so that’s a bonus, but not worth the extra $$. IMO

  It’s a matter of paying up front or back end. With PND like Magellan you pay ~$200 for the unit, which includes the cost for the map and navigation, and traffic is extra. With phone, you are pretty much getting the GPS for free as it comes with the phone whether you use it or not, and pay either small daily or monthly fee. I’m with you. I don’t like monthly fees and I don’t use it, but it’s a nice option to have when I do need it, like when I’m traveling or something.

  I’ve talked to the navigation guys few months ago and shared the exact same point with them, and they understand people don’t like the monthly fee. They are actually looking into a different business model where users can use it for free after paying one time initial fee.

  Another nice thing about the Verizon VZNavigator is that they’ve added the traffic info for FREE.

  I agree with this comparison, I love the dare. I should be getting one in august. I like the iphone too, but AT&T sucks, so whats the point of a cool phone without service? Also the texting on the iphone sucks, the keyboard is way too cramped. I like the feedback becuase the dare is pressure sensative (which i like better) so I can slide my finger across the screen without hitting a button then pressing down to know when I hit something. Very useful when texting. I do like itunes better, but the music player is pretty decent on the dare, way better than any other verizon phone, but the next update should make it better. I love the camera, I dont have one so this will be the perfect all in oen phone for me. Great call quality, service, texting, music, and camera/camcorder.

  The Iphone has great stuff, but a crappy camera, no video camera capabilities, and even the downloaded apps ones suck, the dare takes 120 fps. The camera is decent quality but the dare has 3.2MP and has face detection (first time on an american phone) flash, editing tools, smart pic, and even landscape mode. Its incredible. The only reason I would want the iphone is for the music player, but like i said, the verizon one is good for me for now, until the update.

  PS I dont have the phone yet, but I have played with it a lot. fell free to bash me iphone fanboys and yell “WHAAAAT THE IPHONE IS THE SHITZ0RZ!!!”

  actually, verizon does have better coverage than at&t you can even check coverage maps on both websites for yourself.
  and the the haptic feedback is sort of useless on the the Dare seeing as you feel the vibration just by clicking anywhere on the screen and not an actual button.

  but from an unbiased opinion seeing as i am choosing between both phones, the iphone just seems like the “cool” new thing. people just want it for the cool factor because they make a big deal about the applications and such. it’s the hype. they don’t seem to care about the things that a phone should do and what this doesn’t. don’t get me wrong though, the iphone is pretty amazing. but the dare is also no iphone because it doesn’t have all of this “coolness.” the only differrence for me is the fact that AT&T has horrible service nationwide and verizon doesn’t. plus everyone i know (and i’m pretty sure everyone you know) has verizon.

  go with what works for you. just don’t put down a phone like the Dare because it still is very good. Don’t call it an iPhone killer either because that’s dumb. This is a phone though that will make other people think twice about purchasing the iphone.

  What amazes me is how the iphone junkies quickly remind how many iphones were sold. Just because something sells quickly doesn’t make it great. Instead, it makes the marketing great. We all know that most folks don’t research products like this, they just see a neat commercial and run to the store.

  The iphone is a cool phone and so is the dare. There are minor, and some major, differences in both. It really just comes down to the customer.

  Seriously iphone junkies… get over it… its a phone.

  All i know is that iphone was the greatest invention of 2007….not many phones can say that, can they? Overall,the iphone as a micro pc is better because Safari is much better than most built into phone browsers, supports more languages etc. And yes of course the screen is better on the iphone, Multitouch is something all phones should have, but since they don’t iphone has best screen to-date.

  Even i,as an iphone 3g owner, can say that the phone could be better on the iphone, but its still in it’s earliest revisions. Multimedia wise…iphone takes the cake.

  And since the screen plays hand in hand with the sms messaging, Iphone takes that division also… if you would like a link to a much less biased review, here it is. Review

  I currently have AT&T with the iPhone 3g and I must say the service is quite crappy. The coverage even in major cities is inadequate. I’m switching to Verizon and have purchased the Dare. I’m disppointed that it doesn’t have WiFi, but hey every city I travel to does not have WiFi. Being able to download from the phone is quite useful. Also, much like blackberry in order to own the iPhone you must have the iPhone package. AT&T also charges for every add on and is by far one of the most expensive out there. Tele-nav is supposed be providing gps services for AT&T in the near future but until then the gps is not helpful but for 911 ear marking. Sprint has the best all around plan out there $99 unlimited and it is truly unlimited. The coverage is not that great to me but as far as price is concerned hands down they are the winner. I am a former programmer for both AT&T and Verizon. I’m truly not bias to either one but as far as phone service is concerned Dare wins with the Verizon coverage. If you want multimedia and that is more of your concern by an Ipod touch and get a phone that is capable of functioning as a phone. Remember the true tone of it is “mobile phone” not mobile game system or computer. Leave that to sony and nintendo or mac and hp. Have a nice day

  Uh, all of you that hate the dare need to actually learn some facts about it first before you compare it to the iphone and imply that it doesnt do the same thing…start from some of the first posts in this blog here are some things you implied the dare doesn’t do that it in fact does (added on to many other things)

  IT DOES HAVE:

  1. turn-by-turn nagivation
  2. choice of over 5 different people to voice the directions to you- many of which are male or female.
  3. traffic reports
  4. high resolution screen. how do you say the iphone has a high resolution screen compared to the dare when the dare has a high resolution camera that surpasses the iphone- AND THATS WITHOUT MENTIONING THE 3.2 MEGAPIXEL CAMERA. The iphone’s screen…and dont get me wrong is what…smaller than the psp’s screen so how is that “high resolution”…the psp isnt high resolution and it has better picture and colors than the iphone. dare may have a smaller screen but its also lighter, smaller, and slimmer… so cut the crap and dish the facts.
  5. As for Rhapsody vs. iTunes…uh Rhapsody is 89 cents per song, offers monthly plans for those who arent made of money and want unlimited downloads, and has 3+ million songs which is more than enough to get people started- especially since people download popular music.
  6.Sorry to burst your AT&T bubble but Verizon is THE network. Find the facts on your own since you’re so quick to support AT&T despite you shelling out over $2,000 every 2 years on contract for them.
  7. how are BREW an open source applications bad? As someone menttioned there are thousands of them, you can make your own, they are always being created, there are more useful brew applications than there are expensive iphone applications no one even buys, AND THEY ARE FREE…how many iphone applications have you bought lately?

  This could go on forever, but the LG DARE is the first of many great iphone alternatives to come and as of today its one of the top phones besides the iphone. If you enjoy AT&T get the iPhone if you want Verizon get the DARE..but AT&T fans there is something you need to know…

  Unlike Verizon AT&T does NOT care about its customers. If you break your phone or it breaks on you you get no FREE replacement. If you lose your expensive $200 phone or its stolen you get no FREE replacement. Verizon customers you’re safe. Because as you know just $5.00 a month gives you total warrantly protection from ANYTHING on your device. Break your iphone on the other hand…luckily they are only another $200 :). *goes on rollercoaster with mah phone*

  Yeah its funny how the iphone lovers are so scared to admit that the lg dare is better. I have been with Verizon for about 10 years never had problems. come on cingular was better of by itself at&t just screwed it up.

  I agree with the post above me. Go for what you want, just dont put down a phone cause it’s something you don’t have. You’re just mad cause you locked yourself into a 2 year activation with AT&T with the first cool phone to come out..Sadly within the next 2 years awesome phones and better phones will be coming out and you’ll miss out. The Dare if just one of many. 5 MEGAPIXEL camera’s are coming to cell phones as standard in late 2008 to early 2009 and the dare has 3.2 which is the highest corrently…

  As i said technology always progresses and you iphone holders with your 2.0 megapixels are already becoming quickly behind the times…

  What makes it the iPhone killer? Its the fact that the phone works. Yeah the DARE has its glitches, but none as glaring as the iPhone3G. The iPhone: better screen, better OS, better design, better touch interface… but among all of these features what is the most important part? Does it connect to the network, hold calls, and make it worth the $30 data feature? The iPhone does not!!! Apple can talk all they want about the number of phones sold, but that’s because they have a return policy that basically says if the phone is active, its yours!!! And the iPhone3G has to be active before it leaves the store.

  Any one want to talk about the number of iPhone switchers riding the merry-go-round? They started at one carrier, decided to switch over to the iPhone, and now they are switching back. The iPhone fanboys on this board still love when everyone fawns over their phone. Yeah it looks pretty, but be glad Apple stole visual voicemail for that device — that way you can call all of your verizon friends when they tried reaching you and it went straight to voicemail.

  I am in the process of choosing a new plan, phone and possible a new provider.

  There are a lot of great information from here and other forums. For example, IPhone does not work with bluetooth well, dare has a much better camera, att has less 3G coverage (I tried the iphone in the att retail store and its very slow).

  I don’t see anyone here comparing the service plan, and here is what I found out:

  ATT individual (450 mins): $89.99 = $39.99 + $30(data) + $20(text)
  Verizon individual (450 mins): $79.99 (premium with data and text)

  ATT family (700 mins): $119.99 = $69.99 + $30(data) + $20 (text)
  Verizon family (700 mins): $139.99 (all services)
  verizon family select (700 mins): $99.99 (web/text)

  ATT’s plan seems to be a little cheaper but if the network/connectivity is not as good, then whats the point?

  I really really want to get an IPhone but everything seems to push me towards getting a Dare from Verizon network (I am currently a Verizon user with Blackberry).

  Slight correction, the family text plan is $30 for ATT. So, Verizon family plan is generally $10 more than ATT.

  Here is the new update in case some of you are interested. This is from a shopper point of view. I chose THE COMBINATION: Dare/Verizon. Here are my reasons:

  1. Network. The iPhone does not even on 3G when I was in showroom (Union city, CA). I cannot watch a music video from YouTube without at least 20 restart since the buffering is slow. This does not give me a lot of confidence. Dare on the other hand performed fine in all the area that I visited.

  2. Plan. I manage to get a family plan with 4 lines for about $125/month. Although you can get it online but here is the trick and you may want to get it in a retail store… I have one line which is “premium”, meaning all voice, data. texting and turn by turn GPS. Rest of the three lines are under $10/each (They non-premium). You may or may not be able to do this online with Verizon since their website will not allow you to do so. I doubt if you can do the same mix with the ATT as well. Again, I dont know and I am only providing information here.

  I am happy with the Dare and Verizon except the followings:

  1. Web page viewing can be tricky since the screen is small.

  2. The music software Rhapsody sucks. I am a computer and tech savy. I thought iTune and blackberry’s media manager suck but Rhapsody is even worst in my personal opinion. It is slow (Removing 3.5GB songs took more than 30 mins); playlists has no intelligent like iTune; no import functions from other software such as iTune… The list continues but I stop here.

  3. It is not easy to figure out how i can do multiple things together with the Dare… How can i browse the web, then go and make a call, then return to the same web page without restarting? Same with GPS and other apps. If someone know the answer, please let me know.

  Not to mentioned my Dare cost around $100 after rebate.

  One more warning: Their ad said it comes with 8GB memory card. In reality, only certain plan will qualify. Who cares, the micro SD is really cheap.

  Shopping plans and comparing phones are tricky. I hope my information helps. As I needed those exact information two days ago. Good luck.

  Did someone really pull cost of plans between phones wow i have unlimited everything and yes i get a twenty percent discount which i would get at att too but my bill monthly for the dare is 80 bucks what are you paying iphone users? But im not going to hate on the iphone because it has alot of things that are better than the dare as the dare has alot of things better than the iphone

  So, here’s how I look at it… Yes, the Dare has a video recorder and a better camera. But with how thin they’re making actual digital cameras with video recorders, you’re better off just saving a little money here and there and getting one with much better quality and you can slip it in the pocket of a blazer or jeans.

  I would love for someone to explain to me tactile feedback. It vibrates if I touch it ANYWHERE on the god damned screen. The iPhone doesn’t need that, and here’s why: tactile feedback is a feature on touchscreen phones that use pressure sensitive screens so that you know you applied enough pressure. The iPhone uses a heat sensitive screen, so any touch is automatically registered, regardless of how light. So as long as you have nerves in your fingers and can feel the screen under them, you know you fucking touched it. It’s not as though the tactile feedback would allow you to use the phone blindfolded or something. ‘Cause as I said, I can touch the screen on an area with NOTHING on it, and I still get tactile feedback. How does that help?

  The applications in the app store are amazing. How many dare users can use their computer on their phone? Yes, it’s not something everyone needs, but neither is a video recorder on a phone. The point is, some of the points argued for dare are moot-such as the tactile feedback. And some are a matter of opinion-like the video camera.

  They both do a lot of things the other doesn’t.

  In regard to GPS, the Dare does not use satellites. It uses multiple cell towers to triangulate position.

  That’s not true. Dare does have GPS, as well as ALL the phones on Verizon. The cell tower triangulation is only used on phones that don’t have GPS, like many of the phones on AT&T and T-Mobile (non CDMA phones)

  I’m on my Iphone right now and I can’t Stand it. It has a glitch when u are typing and it’s annoying. The service is terrible I can’t go on vaction without this phone having service and I pay 90$ a month and it’s a total ripoff. So this Friday I’m switching to verizon and getting the dare and almost all the reviews I have read on all the sites favor the dare. So goodbye iPhone thanks for nothing

  another thing to add is that the Internet only works good when u have full reception and even if that the thing freezes up. And I really don’t use the iPod on the iPhone cuz I have an iPod nano which works ally better an uses less battery. One last thing to add is the sound quality of a call is not too great it’s very quiet and I blew the speaker on the ear part idk how so now it sounds worse so in all this phone was fun while it lasted not to mention that the plan sucks!

  Maybe Matt should do some research before telling someone else to. The LG Dare has an option to turn the vibration off when you touch the screen, also they were even in that event because some people prefer a smaller phone, thus needing a smaller screen. Wow matt, i take it you own one of the iphones. sorry to hear that, you should have went with verizon, not only is the Dare cooler, but its cheaper too. Oh ya and the dare will read your txt for you if you, just in case you cant read either.

  I’d have to say that saying the LG Dare is superior to the iPhone is stretch. I bought the LG Dare in July and took it back the same day. If you are looking for a PDA in your phone the LG Dare is not your unit. To date (if they are smart they will fix this) there is not a factory supported method of syncing with your PIM (MS Outlook). I tried that BitPim freeware thing and it did sync but the calendar entries had no location feild and no notes feild. Same with contacts no notes!

  Folks I wanted the LG Dare to work for me but it just could not do what I need which is be a phone and a PDA. The Dare is what I call a fun phone which to me means it is a phone, text message thing, and a way for Verizon to offer other services than just voice service, multimedia for example.

  Form factor wise they are both very similar and the Dare is a little smaller and feels great in your hand.

  I got my 3G iPhone on July 31 and had to painfully endure Apple’s two firmware updates. But as of today with version 2.1 I am as happy as I was when I was a Verizon customer. I loved Verizon and as others have said their service both customer and network quality is the best in the business, though AT&T’s serivce is better than I had expected. My perosnal opinion is Verizon made a very serious error passing on the iPhone. My iPhone is the most exciting new phone/gaget that I have had in years my iPod being its successor. The 3rd party apps are amazing and the phone is near perfect. When Verizon gets the iPhone which may never happen I will be amoung the first in line to switch back if its warranted.

  Bottom line if you are looking at the Dare but really want an iPhone just get and iPhone it’s what you want. That is what I did and I am not looking back.

  LG Dare is NOT a PDA but neither is Apple iPhone, for that matter.

  I played with Dare at the store but decided that I need a real PDA, something that runs Windows Mobile. So, I can either stick with my old choice of Samsung i760 or wait for the new HTC Touch Diamond / Raphael.

  its is true that the iphone has a better touch screen, it is much mure responsive which makes for less frustrating use. i would go for the iphone only if i was on thier network, im on verizon so geuss what i have (dare). only pos. thing about the dare is the camera and the coverage.

  I replied about the upgrade earlier in the comments. I had to take my phone in for the upgrade to the newest software. They had to keep my phone for 45 minutes to do it and you can only do it in a verizon store. That’s pretty stupid seeing how in the phone information section on the Dare it says Software Upgrade. Obviously Verizon locks it up so much that they have to do the upgrade.

  After I got it back, it seems as if the screen was brighter or more colorful. Not sure, but that was my first impression. Other than that, I don’t see a big difference in the firmware.

  The web really is a last resort for me on the Dare, it’s hard to get around and I just simply don’t think it works all that great.

  I did buy the iPod touch and now I understand why everyone loves the iphone. I agree, the tactile feedback on the Dare really doesn’t mean anything to me. As for the keyboard being squashed on the iphone, I agree, but when you type, it automatically corrects your spelling for you. I found out that if i just type and don’t even think about it, i can make mistakes and the software fixes my mistakes. I can type really fast on the ipod touch and really slow on the dare.

  Now if Verizon would just get the iphone, I’d buy one and be a happy camper.

  Quite honestly, the Dare, in no way shape or form even compares to the ipod touch or iphone. I can check my POP email in an instant, browse the web via wi-fi, check movies, stocks, maps, games and so much more with the ipod touch / iphone, all in an instant. No navigating around, just touch the app and go.

  The only thing with all of these phones they need is Flash done right. Not a power hungry, processor consuming Flash, but a stripped down version that just simply works. Adobe claims they are making one (once again), but we’ll see if Apple or some of these phone manufactuers lets them put it on their phones. I doubt it….

  People arguing over crap they don’t know about.

  Speaking of music, I can put anything I want on my Dare, free, no nothing, no problem. Ringtones, free, I make them myself. I have made my own applications, can do pretty much whatever I want.

  I sold the iPhone.

  There is only a single thing I do not like about the Dare. When I record a phone conversation, it only records the other end of the call, not my side of the conversation. That’s really irritating.

  That’s by design not a software bug. I would think it’s more like only recording your end and not their end. It’s part of the law that prevents unlawful recording of conversation without the consent of the other person.

  If your cellphone had a capability to record your conversation without the other person consenting, it’s considered illegal so the phone allows your voice to record but not the other person.
