Line started to form for the iPhone 3G launch

It has been reported that there are already more than 10 people started to form the line outside the NYC Apple Store to be the first customers to own the iPhone 3G when it launches this week.

When there are plenty of other phones that are equal or better than iPhone 3G, can get them now for cheaper (total cost of onwership), why would anybody in there right mind waste the entire week sleeping on the street just so they can get their hands on this phone slightly earlier than others? I would never understand.

According to The Register, Apple has sent working prototypes of iPhones with hardware keyboards to senior executives at some wireless carriers to get their feedback.

iPhone with keyboards? Wasn’t the whole appeal of the iPhone the fact that it was all touchscreen without any hardware buttons? Now, it seems they want to go after the business type. Can Apple satisfy both the cool and heap along with suit and executives-on-the-go?

Blackberry Thunder to have higher resolution than iPhone

The official model number for Thunder will be BlackBerry 9500. And its all touchscreen will have a bit higher resolution than iPhone at 360×480. Iphone’s screen resolution is 320×480.

The expected OS Blackberry 9500 will run is OS 4.7.0, which is newer than the one expected to run on Blackberry Bold (OS 4.6.0)

CDMA version of HTC Touch Diamond

HTC’s best iPhone Killer is coming to CDMA carriers. This grainy picture is showing Sprint logo so we have to assume they will be the first to carry the CDMA version of HTC Touch Diamond. We shouldn’t rule out Verizon either, since they also carry HTC’s original Touch as Verizon Wireless’s own XV6900.

The hidden cost of 3G iPhone

Most people only see $199 or $299 for the 8GB and 16GB 3G iPhone, respectively. What they don’t see is the 2 year contract requirement that costs additional $30/month for the data service plan on top of the voice plan from AT&T. That’s where AT&T makes their money to subsidize the phone for that “low” cost. (Even though people who has done the virtual teardown on the 3G iPhone says that it costs Apple $173 to make 8GB 3G iPhone, and $196 for the 16GB iPhone. But this is not the price AT&T pays to Apple to purchase so they have to eat the cost to sell to consumers at $199 and $299)

Well, it seems if you don’t want the 2 year contract, you have the option of buying them for $400 extra. AT&T hasn’t said when people will be able to do this but you can buy 8GB version for $599 and 16GB version for $699, without the 2 year contract as long as you have some kind of service from AT&T. I’m not sure who would do these but at least the option is there.
