The wallstreet is reporting that AT&T could lose about $1B over the next couple of years due to the new business model with Apple where they now have to subsidize the iPhone to their subscribers. In return, they don’t have to share the revenue from the monthly fees they charge.

The customer can buy the new 3G iPhone from the Apple store for $199 (8GB version). And the customer can buy the same 3G iPhone from the AT&T store for $199, and yet because AT&T has to buy the phone from Apple at higher price and then “subsidize” it to sell it for $199, they would be losing $1B.

Now, if AT&T store can buy the phone from the Apple store at $199 and not from the Apple corporation, they can save $1B. Please have AT&T send me the check for this advice which can save them a lot of money.
