There has always been rumors that maybe the next iPhone will not support LTE but it was confirmed during the earnings call this week when acting CEO Tim Cook said the current LTE chip would make iPhone design compromises, which the company isn’t willing to do. So that means no LTE on the iPhone 5 that’s slated to launch late this year. This also means the earliest LTE enabled iPhone will not be ready until mid 2012. That is almost year and a half after Verizon has launched its first LTE phone, HTC Thunderbolt, with slew of other LTE enabled phones being released later this year.

Do you think it will hurt iPhone sales? I guess that will depends heavily on whether the users believe they must have LTE or not, something they’ve lived this long without.
