PhoneArena.com did a very detailed comparison between these 4 Touchscreen phones available in the US market. Here is the conclusion. Instinct came in first place, with iPhone in second, and followed by Dare and Vu. See if you agree with their assessment.

I do not agree with the results, I have the iphone and I am getting ready to return it. Messaging? it got a 3 what? You can not save a single text message, you either save the whole conversation or not. Video hello? It does not have video. The camera yes takes great pictures if light is present, you can’t zoom in or out. I think this phone is a waste of great potential. The blue tooth is only for the headphones what? So you can’t paired your phone to your pc or laptop nice!!! So advanced but at the same time so behind.
This is terrible, the Dare should get way better scores than that! The design is great, I would give it a 4 or 4.5. The interface, YOU KIDDING ME! its more customizeable than any of those other phones, how did it only get a 3.5? Video? 1? It has the best video possible on a phone, 120 fps. If your talking about watchin videos its great for that also, I cant believe it only got a 1. Messaging is waaay easier than on the iphone, I give it a 5 and the iphone a 3.5. I cant even type on the iphone, way too cramped. And the Misc only a 3? It has so many things to do on it, draw pad, games, music, picture editor, internet, and more. This is a terrible comparison.
the vu is actually a pretty good phone it has most of the things the ipohne has ecxept for the fact that its just like an ipod i recently looked at the instinct and the theinstinct is also descent but i dont have sprint so i got the lg vu because it was new and it has most of the things like the iphone just some features are not on the vu i dont think the vu shouldhave came in last atleast 2nd or 3rd the iphone is a complete waist of money.
This is horrible i mean come on the dare is just a freaky copy of the vu if no one noticed, cuz think about it the vu came out first and it have more and better features then the dare. Oh and how in the world did the dare get a better design score then the vu they LOOK EXACTLY ALIKE expect for color. The only thing good about the dare is the camera. The vu has tv and wht does the dare have NOTHING execpt for a menu that u can organize. The vu should have gotten at least 2nd or third. The vu even gets channels the regular tv cant even get. Plus if u have to go sumwhere and u dont want to miss your show then u can watch it on the vu.
Jeremy,
VU IS NOT BETTER THAN THE DARE!!
The Dare actually is an improvment on the Vu.
And the Dare has nothing? That’s funny. And not true.
So shutup and ‘enjoy’ your little Vu.
I would agree. This review is not accurate. The design is great as well as the interface. The instinct does not have the feature that will swivel the display from portrait to landscape. The video is way better than the 1 given by the reviewer. Also battery life was not address and the dare has 6 hours compared to 5 hours in the iphone and less in the instinct. Messaging has not been a problem for me either. YOu hae a choice between a keyboard, smart type or drawpad. The drawpad is a bit unrefined but the feature is there. Again an all around great phone. Plus unlike the iphone the dare and instinct has removable memory. That is a big plus. I like the Dare and again believe the critique is not very accurate.
this review by far is horrible. the dare is the upmost best touch screen interface phone on the market. has fast internet, verizons outstanding service, what more could you ask for? it has so many feautures that make the phone. Virtual full keyboard? oh yes. 3.2 megapixel camera? believe it.
the dare is amazing. Getchawon
This review is very biased because of the fact that everyone feels the iphone should be this perfect device that no other thing can compete with so it tends to make people more biased when comparing things but I mean seriously if people wanted to figure out which of the two is the best then all they have to do is research…theres alot of sites out such as http://www.lg-dare.com/ I mean LG even made a picture manual for the phone site http://www.lgmobilephones.com/phone.aspx?id=8712 so I mean if people really wanted to find out what is the better phone use resources not reviews….
It’s crazy that alot of people are saying how good the Dare and Vu are as touch phones. I read the comparison very closely and agreed with the findings. The Instinct is the better phone. For those of you with either of the other three phones please write down all of the pro’s and cons. You will then see what the comparison test did. But for those of you who like quick answers, ask yourselves these questions if you have a Vu, Iphone or Dare. Do you have a service that let you use all of your phones features for $99.00 a month (unlimited text, web, tv, gps, weather, radio, updated all around news, email, ect). Gives you two batteries, stereo earphone with mic, home power cord, pc adapter, carrying case, stylus pen and a 2GB memory card. Oh, and the display does swivel from portrait to landscape. Has voice command GPS and web access. Can scroll an internet page with a press of a button and by moving the phone either up, down side to side. There’s so, so, so much more. Now ask yourself, is your Iphone, Vu or Dare better.??.
how is dare a ripoff of vu? they are made by the SAME COMPANY!!! hello they cant rip themselves off? LG made vu for at&t, and dare for verizon.
How come there aren’t much comments regarding the Instinct? I recently purchased an Instinct and a plan to go with it, (in response to Michael M.) Sprint offer the same plan mentioned and is only $69.99; he phone comes with all the goodies that he mentioned as well. I think the Instinct has a great design and is elegant compared to the Vu and Dare. SO far, the only thing that I’m not too satisfied about is the TV capability – so choppy!! – what’s up with that? A friend of mine has the Vu – his TV capability is way better than what the Instinct has to bring.
Janice L,
Continue to check your phone for updates. My TV was a bit choppy at first, but after the latest update, the picture has gotten much, much better. But try to realize that this is a phone, and not a HDTV home system. I’m pretty sure that Sprint will continue to update the phone. There’s supposed to be an update coming out 17 Sept to give the browser better quality and to speed it up even more. Be sure to go to the Sprint forum from the Instinct home page.
How did you get the everything plan for $69.99?
well well well, i knew the instinct was the best then all of those phones especially the dare! i sent this from my INSTINCT, WOOOOO GO INSTINCT!!!!!
please let me know how much my monthly payment will be if i were to get the dare, iphone and vu…who has more bang for there bucks??? thanks
I have navigated each phone in different stores and have spent time with the instinct and iphone and I will agree that the Instinct won me over. It just offers more. IT doesn’t look as great as iphone apps but it offers MORE!!
On the Subject of the dare and the vu:
I have a vu and have used a dare and i think that the vu’s screen has more contrast but the dare’s is brighter. The dare is more customizable. The vu has great tv capabilities for a phone. The Dare does have a better camera, but in direct comparison, the screen size is so similar between the two phones that it is hard to tell the difference.
The dare came out later, ie. is like an upgrade to the vu, meaning that yes, it is marginally better. however, it isn’t good enough to change providers over, so get the phone that is on the provider that you really want.
Keep the comments coming, guys. It’s nice to get a different perspective from people who have used these phones.
IM GETTING AN ISTINCT…!!!
i have the INSTINCT and i love my phone i can do everything with it. i recently compared it to the i phone and concluded it is way better. if u dont have a phone or want to switch to sprint definately get the INSTINCT!!
I recently looked over the specs of all the current phones on the market (including the Blackberry Storm), and I think I can break the phone delima down with this simple statement.
If you want a really good phone for WORK purposes, then get the Storm.
If you want a really good GADGETS, with phone services, then get the Iphone.
If you want a really good PERSONAL phone with features that you can (and will) actually use every day, then get the Instinct. The Vu and Dare are GOOD phones, but the Instinct is GREAT.
Oh, and to put some facts out there about the Iphone. I’m told that you get alot of applications on the Iphone, but you have to PAY for those apps. All the Instinct apps are free. The Instinct recently added Facebook, Youtube and Myspace.
what r u people talking about….the lg dare is the best phone made……..i mean sure the iphone is top talk these days but comeon iphone-dare make ur choise and because there isnt much talk about the instint is because the instinct stinks!!
as u no i choose the dare!!!!!
I just found out that it’s not possible to insure the IPhone thru AT&T or whoever else you have service with.
Those same things are free on the dare… myspace and youtube facebook. As well as other things as long as you pay the price plan for your iternet browser. Oh, and I find the VZW Navigation system to be completely useful. It definitely helped me when I went to the city (New York) and even back in my rural home. And I can definitely rely on Verizon’s impeccable service. So, there. And Michael M, you seem really intent on getting people to buy the Instinct, but perhaps their instinct tells them not to.
all of these phones are good… it is stupid for everyone to be bitching about how their phone is sooo much better. the iphone and vu are good for at&t customers, the instinct is good for sprint, and the dare is good for verizon. if you like your phone and you’re soo sure it’s the best phone out there, that’s wonderful for you, but maybe someone likes a different phone. THATS OKAY! not everyone has the same network. don’t get all mad when people don’t want to obsess over your phone.
and michael m… we understand that you’re very passionate (maybe a little too passionate) about your instinct. the reality is not everyone is going to switch networks to sprint just to get an instinct. so just be happy with your phone and stop pushing it on everyone else.
hi uhm i have a dare and i like it. im not saying its better than anyone of the phones, but seriously? who cares. and for the two that are fighting its a freaking phone website you both are nerds. and just to let you know, the dare is NOTHING, I REPEAT NOTHING LIKE THE INSTINCT. who df said they are the same, if its because of the buttons, its not every touchscreen phone (almost obviously) has that interface. for cripe sake. i agree with lisa and nat (:
The dare is way better than all of your phones, so shutup and accept it nerds!
I am getting the Lg Vu..My boyfriend has the Lg Dare and I really don’t like it. The Lg Vu, seems like its a great phone. I like the fact that you will be able to watch Tv on it. As i was reading the reviews, I see that Instinct, is the best phone, in “peoples” eyes, i mean i think people shouldnt get mad over that fact that they think there phone is better…i mean everybody isnt with the same companys…but then again i still feel like the LG VU is better!!!!
yo wtf dawg the vu is better den all that shit
I believe the people who waste their time argueing which phone is better owns the phone it self. No one in the world would want to diss and criticize their own assets. I personally own the vu, and believe me, i like the Vu more than all the other top available touch screen phones. I came up with this judgement based only on my personally preferences/opinions, and i made no false/bias statements of any sort.
oh ima get the dareee!
i think!
well im gettin a newww phone and i want it!:]
i was gonna get the blackberry storm but it had a internet payment thingy that tallies up to like 400 dollars extraaa a year!:[
so someone who OWNS a DAREEE PLEASE TELL ME do you pay for a internet payment that isnt your choice if you want the internet thinggyy or nottt?!
I love the dare it is a great phone if you think it is bad you dont know what you r talking about
my friend has the lg vu and i absolutely HATE it! the touch sensitivity sucks. it is so hard to touch the screen and get a response from it. you have to touch it like 3 times. when you are scrolling, it scrolls the opposite of the direction of your finger, the set up of it is really ugly, the resolution doesn’t seem as good as the others it seems kind of grainy and not that colorful. She also has a problem with the back of the phone where if you push on it a little it goes inward, also the battery cover comes off really easily. The quality of the camcorder is not good at all either. when you play back the video, even if it’s small the video is pixely and blurry. Also when you call someone it is really quiet, you can barely hear the other person talking. The design isn’t that pretty either. its boring and i think that it’s ugly. i think that you would be better off with the dare. it has more to offer and it is a prettier phone. I haven’t really looked at the other 2 phones so i don’t know what they have to offer.
lg dare all the way.
Verizon Basic plan $39.99 450 mintes, $15 Vcast = internet, $9.99 GPS (or $2.99 for 24 hour use), $9.99 text messaging, $5.99 insurance ($50 deductible for damage or loss vs. iphone warranty that doesn’t compare).
Another option is there Connect plan 450 minutes $69.99, unlimited messaging, mobile email, mobile web 2.0 (fyi not the internet but Verizions version), and unlimited data.
Premium $79.99 – 450 minutes, unlimited messaging, V Cast (score), Navigator, and mobile email.
FYI – Verizion is change the renew every 2 plan to only $30 credit if your plan is <$79 per month. This was a great perk for years of $100 credit, I guess the economy is taking it’s toll.
All that being said, I’m still getting the Dare (because I get a discount with work for the plan). I’ve seen the phone and really liked it, although the internet takes some adjusting (+ / – key to change your zoom). Yes, you can stream youtube (just be forewarned that sites like Hulu lock it up because they render flash). The iphone does offer beta programs, but by default it has the same flash problems.
Here are some things that I would like to address. The iphone battery is non-replaceable. At $200 that is a hefty price to pay in the event that it fails (those quick charges in the car probably don’t help, but hey you never do that, right). The warranty is a major thing as well (so Verizion has that edge as noted above with the insurance) Talk with someone who has an iphone and hear what they say about it, I bet it won’t be what you expected. The only only other factor is the coverage area and Verizion has it won hands down.
Since I ride a motorcycle (yeah the rockets that the news media constantly put down) and this is probably the single most important thing. Something that no review ever really seems to shed a light on, but hey it’s your decision to compromise if you’d like.
Verizion gets me for 2 more years come spring because of the Dare, but after that I will be open to change (yeah, I sound like you know who in the oval office).
Cheers,
n8
The Vu is not a copy of the dare, the dare and the vu were both made by the same company (LG)so the company just made a similar phone and sold it to a different network.
They’re all good phones to say the least but I do disagree with the scores for the dare. It’s messaging is better than the I-phone with the keyboard interface, you can send video/voice/picture/text messages which my buddy can’t receive on his I-phone. Also it’s video is clearly the best of virtually any phone. Music is louder than that of the I-phones and you can just connect your phone to the comp drag and drop mp3′s on it when you purchase an 8 gig or so sim card. The low scores are for the wrong features.
“retract” My buddy can’t receive the picture/video/voice messages via his I-phone when I send them… Have to send pic/video via e-mail..
the only un accurate parts were the instincts video quallity and the iphones camera
Dare is better hands down then the iphone or the vu. The instinct and the dare are evenly matched but the dare has better coverage with verizon and better camera so dare wins.
the dare is a piece of shit
iphone owners think theyr the shit but theyr being raped so bad with the plan and the phone itself is not that good only cuz of the apps and stuff thats it. And the new 3gs w/ 32 gigs of memory for about 200 more! that is bullshit i can put a 32 gig card on my dare and BAM all that storage for about 50 bucks and i get to keep my BADASS DARE!! So fucking customizalbe and aaa love the pics and music. I had an instinct and yea sprints 99 dollar plan is badass, but i just coulnd’t stand not being able to customize my phone or at least put the pic of my wife on the backround always that HEDIOUS GREY THEME. That was too much for me and felt locked out of my own phone!! i never felt it mine. Plus the PICS take a SHIIIITLOOOADDD of timet to load up and it gets soooooooooo frustrating ==any instinct owners wanna deny it???== it sucks. On the dare they load in a flash, music pics videos everything. I love that i can take a video on high speed mode and play it later on slow mo dang looks so freakin cool.
LG DARE ALL THE WAY
Iphone, Instinct……nah
Vu idk i’ve never tried one but guess its like the dare but on att. Just that att has the tv, and verizon has the camera.
The VU is way better than the DARE. The dare is just a copy of the VU. Verizon people wanted a phone like the VU so they made one for them. Screw the Dare it doesnt have TV like the VU. the Web Browsing on the VU is way better. Camera is only a little bit better on the dare.
I d k what u ppl are smoking .. the truth iz the dare n the vu are completely perfect … i’ve had both of the phones n they both work the same … infact i found the dare easyer … and i love the speaker … it is much louder …. and fyi i can get t.v on my dare …. CANADA MOFO
Idk what the canada mofo is smoking because ive had friends with the dare and i have the VU. The VU is way better. You can get TV on the dare but its not the same as the tv on the VU. Dare is a copy of the VU. Speaker wise i think its the same and the web browsing on the VU is sooo much better.

iPhone, Instinct or Dare…
What to get…iPhone, Instinct, or Dare?? I’ve carried my HTC Apache (Verizon’s XV6700) for two years and have decided that it was fun while it lasted, but time for something a little more compact, a little lighter weight, and a little more elegant…
