No one can question the impact that an iPhone has in the cell phone industry (although LG Prada was the first all touchscreen phone, not the iPhone). Since the first iPhone was launched in 2007, there has been a lot of copycats but also legitimate iPhone Killers that offered features not found in the iPhone.
When Apple re-introduced the iPhone 3G in 2008, it added some of that lacked features such as 3G data capability and GPS function, something that was very common in other iPhone Killers.
Since that time, iPhone Killers have offered even more features, such as bigger display, better display (AMOLED), better digital camera (up to 12MPixel), video recording, turn by turn directions, voice recognition, FM radio, FM transmitter, etc. etc. etc.
However, purely on the software side, Apple was able to offer the turn by turn navigation, and copy and paste function.
What will the “new” iPhone be like? The question still remains, will the iPhone ever catch up to the real iPhone Killers? I sure hope so. Why? It will make the iPhone Killers even better.

Oh man I cant wait. It will have to be something mind blowing that will push the rest of the phone community back another 4 years as the Iphone has. Cant wait to see what iphone killers will come form it, keeping my eye on htc they make good phones. BTW am I really the only person that ever goes on this site? Or does every one else choose not to comment on anything?
There are many other visitors but they choose not to comment.

Glad to see more people posting comments.
Windows Mobile smartphones were there way before the iPhone and the Prada. In fact, at the time the iPhone appeared, WM was at version 6. The WM OS sucks, but these phones were there quite earlier. And there were already versions with cameras, GPS with turn-by-turn navigation, media players, wifi, bluetooth, 3G and mediocre web navigation.
The iPhone greatest contribution was the compulsory internet connection, which totally changed the way a smartphone was to be used. Looking great, having a great OS and very usable web navigation really helped too.
I feel what got the IPhone so popular and a hot commodity was the application aspect. Which is very prevalent in their advertising. I have an ITouch (IPhone without the phone) and I will be honest, the phone that has applications and the ability to get applications like that gets my spending dollar. I just don’t want to get an IPhone.
