When Google introduced their own branded iPhone Killer running their OS, Android, there were a lot of hype surrounding this phone. However, the original phone was sold only through website for $529 unlocked or $179 with 2 year contract through T-Mobile, not the most popular carrier in US. And because of that the sales numbers for the original Nexus One was somewhat disappointing with only 145,000 sold.

However, today Google has announced that Nexus One can also work on AT&T network, the same network that Apple iPhones are exclusively available. It should be interesting to see how AT&T customers will react to this.

Also, there are confirmed rumors of CDMA version of Nexus One that can work on Verizon and other carriers are coming soon.

The only bad news is that Google Nexus One is only available through Google’s online store so you can’t go to any store to play with before you buy one…….

Correction: Google only sold 135,000 not 145,000.

Still, you have to give some credit Google for coming up with their own hardware that runs their Android OS. They did this with almost zero advertising and only selling it online. People couldn’t go to any store to touch and play with it before they would commit 2 year contract, or folk for over $500 if they get it unlocked. I don’t believe the goal for Google to launch Nexus One was to sell as many as Apple iPhones.
