Apple reported their earnings today after the market close and they have sold 14.1M iPhones in Q3 2010, far more than 12M that analysts had predicted. That is a lot of iPhones. Many other companies don’t sell 1 model of the phone that many during the life time of the phone and yet Apple did it with one model in just one quarter.

iPad sales had been disappointing though. Many predicted 5M in sales but Apple only managed to sell 4.2M. Again, that’s still a lot of iPads for a category that didn’t exist before.

This was bit of unexpected news today from Verizon saying they will be able to sell WiFi versions of Apple iPads, bundled with Verizon’s MiFi Hotspot equipment. What does this mean?

Physically, the WiFi only version of Apple iPad selling on AT&T is no different from the ones sold in Verizon store. WiFi is WiFi. However, the 3G version they sell in AT&T is not going to work on Verizon’s network and is still not being offered. Instead, Verizon is making the user buy the MiFi equipment, which will connect to Verizon 3G network and connect to iPad through WiFi.

Price wise, it’s probably the same since 3G version from AT&T is more expensive than WiFi only version but is equal to Verizon’s WiFi version plus MiFi equipment price.

The only difference is for Verizon version, you’ll have to carry the MiFi equipment instead of being built-in the 3G iPad version.

Does this also mean Apple iPhone is coming to Verizon? Well, neither Apple nor Verizon is coming out and said that. However, this does mean both Verizon and Apple are showing the world that they can play together and we can only guess this could lead to more business together going forward.

Apple has announced that it has sold 2M iPads in first 60 Days. That is a very impressive number considering the iPads are not available in all markets yet. And this is a brand new category that no other companies have been able to break in to before.

However, now that this category of “Tablet” has been established and accepted, there will be more competition from all the PC/Notebook manufacturers as well as from consumer electronic companies. All the indication has been many are working on tablets running on Google’s Android OS.

If you are not seeing anything on the screen, you are not alone. None of the iPhone or iPad owners are able to see the newly built site for the upcoming Toy Story 3 movie site. Why?

Because Apple has intentionally decided not to support Flash. Somehow, the creative team at Disney/Pixar team must not have gotten that memo as the whole site was built around the Flash. And did you know that the head of Apple is also the majority shareholder of Disney? It will be interesting to see how fast they take down the site and show something else…..

Apple has officially unveiled some of the details to highly rumored new OS version for the iPhone, iPod, and iPads. As expected the new OS will have multi-tasking feature that was sorely lacked on the previous versions, and criticized heavily for not having. Other Android and other OS based phones all had supported multi-tasking for a while but it took Apple 4th generation of OS to finally offer it. I guess for many iPhone users, it’s better late than never.

Supposedly, there are more than 100+ new features with the new software version, more notably better e-mail, folders, support for iBook, etc.

However, you won’t get the new OS to upgrade your iPhone until later this summer.

The much anticipated iPad went on sale over the weekend and they have sold over 300,000 units just on the first day. That is more than what Google Nexus One sold over first several months.

There has been plenty of hype surrounding this tablet from the company that brought iPhone to the world and analysts are eating it up. One is even predicting that Apple will sell 7M iPads in 2010 and triple it by 2012. Those are some real bold predictions. Others seems to agree as the Apple share has been hitting all time high leading up to the iPad sale date.

But what about the actual benefit of owning one or its usability? Will this replace anyone’s phone or a laptop? What do you think?
